I'm in highschool and I always have a problem with my stamina in cardiovascular activities. It's really annoying, I have worse stamina than people who have never even jogged a meter in their lives. Its like I'm born with below average lung capacity. Btw I have pretty bad asthma but I don't know if this is a factor. I try so hard to keep running even after I'm tired but it feels like torture like my ribcage is going to explode and I can't. Am I just a pansy or is there something I can do to improve my stamina?
How can I improve my stamina?
I'm in highschool too and I'm also on the cross country team. I also have pretty bad asthma as well, just work your butt off during the summer BUT DO IT IN MODERATION!!!! I don't want anyone dying because of an attack based on my advice. Try doing 1/4 of a mile each day for a week. and then add on 1/4 each week after that. Don't try doing a 5 mile run right off.
Reply:When I had this problem, I had to find something that I enjoyed that was a little physically demanding, I suggest that you find a sport you really like to play. Or you can try getting a bike. They don't require more energy than regular walking, but its really fun to bike on trails, or even on roads. Biking is a great cardiovascular activity. If you live in a city like Toronto, there are many bike trails and resources.
Reply:go to the doctor ladybug! lol jk. well, if i am your friend in real life i might help u. but look just think posivite and work hard..i dont know whats wrong with me but thats something...drink more water...oh yea if i were your friend lets drink beer..haha i kid im just a high school student....peaceo ut.
Reply:The American College of Sports Medicine offers guidelines for cardiovascular, flexibility and resistance training. The guidelines are flexible enough to allow you to pick your own exercises but have enough structure to get you going when you first start out. They are pretty easy to follow and will make your workout easier and more efficient.

How to build on speed/stamina for football?

How to build on speed/stamina for football?
Run, run, and run some more! You can also incorporate alot of polymetrics training that'll get your heart rate up therfore increasing your endurance! If you don't know what that is, you basically set up stations (sprints, cone drills, foot work etc.) alot of short high intensity drills! Hit em' and hit em' get that heart rate up! For a DE work on your hand skills, and foot work! You need quick hands and feet...so put some ankle weights on you wrists as well as on the ankles...then work on firing off from your stants you'll be suprised at the difference when you take those weights off! You'll build the muscle that you use for those particular things aswell as the life of those muscles(endurance) Good Luck!
Reply:Dude. Don't waste our time by asking us stuff you already know. You know that sprinting and running is the only way to do that, you're just too lazy to do it on your own so you want to hear a bunch of us tell you what to do.
Reply:Buy A NIKE SPARQ Training Parachute I Have One And I Love It, I Usually Have Ankle Weights On When I Run With It On Also. I Play Middle Line Backer And Offensive Tackle.
Reply:yeah sprinting and running will do it
but try running up stairs or hills
or if u can find one try running up dirt hills like LT
Reply:The obvious ways of course. Running!! Run miles and hills everyday.
Reply:Hard work and dedication.

How do I increase my stamina while running?
I'm a self proclaimed treadmill warrior. I hate running outside (which is much harder, but hey, I am what I am right :-)). Anyway, I'm up to about a mile and a half (6.5 mph for 15 minutes; I add a minute every day so by the end of this coming week I'll be at 20 minutes...or roughly two miles) and I'm wondering if there are any effective ways to increase stamina and endurance...in other words, I want more wind so I can run longer. Are there foods I should eat? Liquids I should drink? Foods/drinks I should stay away from? Any particular times to eat or drink? Any ideas?
P.S. I've cut out ALL caffeine and sleep aids and that seemed to help me turn the corner....still, I want more endurance!!!
How do I increase my stamina while running?
I find just by really concentrating on my breathing while I am running I can go a lot further than I would if I were focusing on the pain and fatigue.
Reply:well, despite the obvious running outside to build endurance, don't eat fatty foods. foods with high carb levels, like spaghetti, give you more energy over time. energy drinks are out. water beats Gatorade. just eat healthy.
plus, running builds your endurance all by itself. try adding some incline to your workout. raise up the incline one degree every week
Reply:well first I believe you should read some books about the sport of running..
one doesn't just run...the same way one doesn't just go to the gym and hit weights....no offense..
if one wants to improve endurance it won't be found in a shake..
rather one improves in running by scheudling their days in a training manuel...one day you should run faster for a shorter period of time..
another day you run your normal course..
the next you try to push yourself further,,,
this is how one breaks plateus in their training..
one can also run as far as you normally can and then walk for a while..then when you feel rested..run again
Reply:Drink a whey protien shake 30-60 min before your workout. It will ready your muscles for the workout, thus making you less out of breath.
Reply:Although I preferably run outside because for some reason I get shin splints while running on a treadmill, I believe that my advice may be helpful. I run with a dust filter mask over my face while running outdoors. When you max out running on a treadmill the only way to increase your endurance is to increase your lung capacity.
That is basically what endurance is how much you can do versus your lung capacity. Many marathon runners run in areas with extremely thin air, or if there is no thin air they do the same as I do.
You want to eat foods that are look in calories and especially carbohydrates. I am on a strict oatmeal and chicken diet because I want to bulk up to 235.
Water gives me cramps while running and the only solution that comes to mind is to drink BSN N0-eXplode, but that is packed crammed with processed sugar. It is more of a caffeine and energy boost than anything.
Trust me you should try running outdoors, I used to do it in high school, and now 3 years later it is just as challenging. Jogging for 8 blocks is hard with wind resistance and alternating terrain. Hope that my information helps.

Reply:just keep gradually running longer...breath in through your nose and out through you mouth...that helps when youre running...but yeah just go a little longer than 1 min. each day...and control your breathing..that is the main thing
Reply:Drink a Greater Refresh Potion (the red ones)
Reply:Aerobic Oxygen and/or Ultimate Orange...
Reply:It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Keep adding to your mileage gradually. Some other things that you can do would be to add some hill %26amp; interval workouts. These exercises will extend your lactate threshold and let you go longer on the runs where the pace is slower. Best of luck!

How do you improve stamina for your running?
I just ran a mile today (on grass) and got 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Any ideas on how to improve?
How do you improve stamina for your running?
Practice. It takes just that to get used to it.Then keep it up.
Reply:keep running. That's really the only way. I swim, but all exercise based on racing is the same in principal. We did ladders. We would swim a 50 then 100 then 200 then 300 then 400 then 300 then 200 then 100 with about 10 seconds rest in between each. Also doing some lengthy sprint sections will help get your stamina up.
Reply:Change your lifestyle and do this forever. Drink lots of water, walk, run, or swim an hour every day except 1 then do stretching and upper body toning. Eat fruits %26amp; vegetables.
No alcohol
no bread
no burgers
No candy
No chips
no corn
no fried foods
No pasta
No pizza
No potatoes
No sodas
No sugar
Good Luck
Reply:Don't eat any fattening food and practice running everyday!
Remember, PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Another key factor, soda, do not drink any carbonated beverages, it lowers your O2 max and weakens your lungs. other than that, remember to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth so you don't dry up your throat.
Reply:well run a long distance on most days like 2-3 miles and then work up....after you get that goin try to lose just alittle weight, and work specificly on cardio on some days....and keep practicing agility and being fast...as you said u r fast...dont lose the speed
Reply:u have to work a system. u really have to stay persistent. go on long runs and keep doin that till its comfortable at that distance then up the tempo on the same distance. after ur comfortable there increase the distance but not the tempo. after ur comfortable there up the tempo on the same distance etc. u have to run at least 3 days a week to see improvments. but don over do it u have to rest at least once week. u dont see results till u give ur muscels time to recoop. or else u will jus do more damage than good.
