What is the best way to build up stamina for running?

My town of Alpine, New Jersey is essentially hills and mountains(as the name suggests) so I usually run the hills, but i am wondering is it better to go fast on flat terrain or slower on hills. Which will give me a better workout and get my stamina higher assuming i go for the same time.

and what other workouts could i do

What is the best way to build up stamina for running?
My anwser is to run up hills, then stress ur body to jog down em slowly. I suggest you run 4-5 miles a day like. Then you cna add on 5 pound weights. Every 2 weeks add on 5 pounds until you reach 20 pounds. Soon enough you will be running 4,5, and 6 mile jogs without even losing your breath.
Reply:best solution is to vary your workouts

some days easy on the flat

some days fast on the flat

some days on the hills

this assumes you have a basic fitness level and can run easy for 30 minutes

always build up slowly otherwise your injury risk is higher

1 0r 2 hard work outs a week for detailed workouts try the links

pfitzsingers book is great if runnings your main goal
Reply:Don't start of running on hills you should stick to flat surfaces and increase you distance when you feel comfortable when you get tired you kow your improving if you carry on. When you feel ready you can try more demanding terrain and always breath slowly through your nose and out of your mouth to regulate your air intake and heart rate.
Reply:Interval -Interval- Interval......Runnersworld.com has a number of articles and advise. I know it helped me more than any other training! It also helps when looking at increasing your speed. Intervals=Strength and Stamina
Reply:I personaly would have to say interval traning...for example :

two types

ladder and consistant

ladder:

30sec hard 1min off, 1min hard 1min off...repeat till u get to 3min hard an go back down....(when i say off i mean jog)

consistant:

3min hard 2min off for 15 min or so
