How can I train to be on my schools track team?

Next year I want to join my schools track team but I don't want to blow on tryouts. I'm a fairly fast runner, but not to fast. I lose my energy quick, and I think I need to run more often and get into shape before trying out. What can I do over the summer to help me get up my stamina and become a better runner?

How can I train to be on my schools track team?
Jog for about 15 minutes every day, and then increase the amount of time that you jog for 5 minutes every day until you begin jogging for 45 minutes every day.

This will increase your stamina a lot.

And you would be surprised how much listening to music helps.

When I'm running, I have to be listening to my ipod.

It makes you feel tired less easily, gives you a beat to run to, and makes you want to run longer.

Try running one day without an ipod and one day with an ipod.

You will see a huge difference!!

Also invest in a good pair of light-weight running shoes.

Nike makes good ones.

Drink Gatorade or Pedialyte before you run too, these drinks have electrolytes that lose when you sweat.

Running daily will make you a faster, stronger runner.

Just remember to do it!!

I find I'm more likely to go running if I do it in the morning, that way if something comes up later in the day, I don't have to worry about missing my exercise!!

I hope this helps!!
Reply:A lot can be involved in training for track than just running or running faster. Check here http://www.oztrack.com/training.htm to see what can be involved which includes strength, balance, proper form and specific exercises. Can you contact the track coach and ask for suggestions? If they cannot meet with you or suggest help to assess you, perhaps some simple ideas of what you can do over the summer can be given to you over the phone.

I know there are books at the library on running and training that might be helpful and google training for track for other ideas. Depending on how serious you want to get, there are training camps for runners.
Reply:First, work on at least 30min of cardio a day, control your breathing with some sorts of meditation/breating excercises. the reason you lose energy is because your muscels are losing fuel (oxygen). drink alot of green tea, lipton brand after running as it speeds up your matabolism and energizes you. good luck, ive done track before.
Reply:Cross training!!! Be more active, running all the time is boring, however if you cross train it can make this a lot more fun and it can improve other aspect of your body, that can lend unique qualities towards track. Sex or swimming can improve breathing. Ballet and yoga can improve other aspects.
Reply:start out slow. Maybe use your ipod and set a goal. Maybe the first day you can only get through 2 songs.

The next day or week try to get through three

and so on.
Reply:you just said it... run. build stamina. I play baseball for a d1 college and the only way to get better is to do what you want to get good at
Reply:practice practice pratice. dont let 1 day go by w/o running... a lot. but dont start @ like 2 hours on ur first day. take little steps- u'll get there
Reply:every night do crunches more and more each night then that will get your midsection together and fit so you will be able to run more that's what my coach tells me
Reply:get on a good nutritious diet

and have a training program
Reply:RUN FOREST RUN!!!!
Reply:run faster
