How do you justify women playing 3 set matches in Grandslam?

This is going on for a long time. Women demand equal prize money and I am in favour of that.

But I have not seeen many women players wanting to play 5 set matches atleast in Grandslams.

Tennis is sport of skill, endurance and stamina. They are not competing against men, but playing against each other only.

The way i see is, we have same length tracks for men and women in athletics. Women don't run half the distance as men to win Gold medal.

Then why in Tennis it's different?

How do you justify women playing 3 set matches in Grandslam?
No that is crap. There is no pressure or no added pressure just because it is a best 2 out of 3 rather than a 3 out of 5.

The better athlete will win in either environment. Since they get paid the same and have bitched about it then they should work the same plain and simple. Yes they have to train and condition but all that the fans care about is the match. What would you rather watch a 3 set or a 5 set match. For me a 5 setter is more interesting. It gives them the chance to drop a couple and still win or if one competitor is far superior then she will win in straights but we won't have to keep beating the dead horse of equal pay. Right now with similar prize money women make more than men and why? The men's matches are more entertaining and more watched. It is just two combatants of the same sex playing first to 3 sets so that should be easy for 2 professional females especially when $1.2 million is going to the winner.

Martina Navratilova could have lasted 5 sets easy but yeah she really wasn't a real she. Two real shes that could last 5 setters are Henin and Graff. The ones that say they can't don't want to work hard enough at conditioning to do it. Plain and simple. What kind of message are we sending if we pay females more per set or more per match on average than men who are beating the crap out of each other for 5 sets. What about the toll on their bodies. Maybe they should cut 5 set matches out entirely and have all pros play only best 2 out of 3 setters to really be fair.
Reply:I can see it for tennis..... the rules are set up for women only, men do not compete against them. Women do not have the same endurance and stamina and the matches would deteriorate for both competitors in the 5th set. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried 5 set matches in the past and modified the rules accordingly.

The same holds true for golf......shorter course layouts, 3 rounds instead of 4...
Reply:Women run marathons, so, yes, they certainly have the capacity to play a 5 set game of tennis. A Grand Slam final shouldn't be completed under 1 hour.
Reply:most women can not endure a 5 set match. yes, whilst women have equal running lengths for athletics- the match last for a few minutes- 1/2 hr max. in tenn is the match can last for more than an hour for just one set and women are just not phsically capable as men.
Reply:I don't recall any of the women who were against playing 5 set matches, but I think that you came upon a great idea! I would love seeing women play 5 set matches in the Grand Slams. Of course, the tournament may have to be extended an extra week because of match times, but who cares!
Reply:I totally agree. I have said for the longest, that as much as I am a fan of the womens game, that if they want equal prize fund, especially at The Slams, then play the best of 5 sets at The Slams and the end of season championships like they used to do. How often do they actually go 3 sets anyway? Not often at all, so 4 times a year, make it 5, they could go the extra, to 5 sets. Grant it, the womens game has improved immensely over the last few years and many are contenders, but its time to show their true grit, and earn that prize fund.
Reply:Simple. Women just don't have to stamina for a 5 set match. Of course most can probably do it. But injuries would be at a high if that were to happen. Were just built differently.
Reply:You don't justify it coz ya can't!

One of the reasons the top women are so ahead of the rest is they prepare far more but anyone can last two sets as well as a third from time to time.

However, at the intense level of the men's game ya gotta be extremely fit to still be firing on all cylinders in a fifth set.

I just happen to think there is so much more physical playing drama and tension in Men's matches at Grand Slams.

Solutions?

Get the men to only play three sets which they mainly play anyway! [apart from the big four Grand Slam events]

Get the women to play five!

Pay equal prize money but per set so ya get paid more if the match goes to three or five sets! [but the players may just arrange to play longer!]

Eliminate 'Men's' and 'Womens' separate events and just have 'Players' events!

If this was to happen even the #1 ranked female player would not get past the pre-qualifying let alone past the first round, so they will never agree to allow it!
Reply:couldnt agree more:)
Reply:i believe a long time ago at the WTA masters event.. they toyed with the idea.. and it was a great disaster.... by the fourth set both players want to be off the court..

womens tennis already is bombarded with enough injurys, inconsistency and withdrawls.. why add another problem to the formula?

women do not have the stamina and strength to play at a high leveal through 4 or 5 sets

don't forget having to win 2 straight sets or 2 sets to one is more pressure.. women have less room for error, which makes it challenging for them.. where as men have more room for error...
Reply:women calls for equality in everything , so why should not they play 5 sets
Reply:Women may only play best of 3 sets, but there is far more pressure on the women in that situation compared to the men, and that makes up for playing shorter matches. In men's matches, you can lose the first two sets and still win the match if you can win the last 3 sets. In women's matches, if you lose two sets you lose the match.
Reply:___i knOw what yOu mean____ i agree with yOu____i think they shOuld play the same length as men____ but having tO put up with maria sharapOva grunting fOr 5 sets wOuld be hell___ lOl____ but i think if they dOn't change it_____they shOuld atleast make a 3 set match in a final Of a grandslam___ it wOuld be alOt mOre entertaining____ seeing the players cOme back later in the game will give us an OppOrtunity tO see the wOmen play at their best____ cause a 2 set final is tOO shOrt____ but i agree with yOu 100%____
