Can you build stamina/exercise by running in place?

Don't have a lot of room to run lol, can you exercise and gain stamina by running in place with some room?

Can you build stamina/exercise by running in place?
Yes, but shadow boxing is even better...you burn more calories and it's a great cardiovascular workout.
Reply:of course. its like using a treadmill
Reply:If you can avoid getting BORED with it. Maybe do it every day while a Seinfeld or Friends rerun is on.

Running outside is less boring, that's why so many more people do that.
Reply:running in place is a form of cardio exercise, but it definitely will NOT replace your daily jog because it is a different biomechanical motion. running in place is more similar to jump roping, a vertical motion, than running, a forward motion.
Reply:It really only works your hip flexors, the muscles to lift your thighs.

Run in place, and do step-ups to a chair as an extended aerobic exercise. That will be like going up stairs, two at a time.
Reply:Running in place should do the trick.

Now, I know there is probably a reason why you're asking about this that I'm not aware of, but if you can I would suggest running outside. If nothing else, the scenery is better. :-)
Reply:yeah, maybe try to clear the outskirts of your bedroom, or the living room or something and do a couple laps.
Reply:yes. It raises your heartrate witch is alot of what your going for. good luck.
