I live in southern california and would like to buy a kayak that i could use out on the pacific ocean but also in the local bays. Eventually after gaining enough stamina i'd like to paddle to Catalina (13 miles) with some friends. I was wondering what type of kayak is best suited for use in the ocean.

GOOGLE Prijon and check what they offer to suit your needs,specs.You will need 2 hatches ,day pocket , rudder for ease ,stability for rough ,perhaps length for seas and upturned nose as is on the Seayak. I have a Seayak and love it,good for rivers too and you need to consider rivers too not just flat water .
